Tragedy struck in Niger State on Tuesday when a fuel tanker exploded, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 individuals and injuring around 40 others.
According to eyewitness accounts, the explosion happened near the Essan and Badeggi communities within Katcha Local Government Area at approximately 11:00 a.m. The victims were reportedly collecting fuel from the overturned tanker when the blast occurred.

Many of those affected suffered severe burns, with some victims unidentifiable due to the extent of the injuries. The injured were promptly taken to local medical facilities for emergency care.
Farouk Kawo, Chairman of the Niger State Tanker Drivers Association, voiced his deep sorrow over the incident, highlighting the dangers along this route. He noted that this month alone has seen more than 30 tanker-related accidents in the area.
