An explosion involving a petrol tanker has tragically claimed the lives of approximately 30 individuals and left around 40 others injured along the Agaie-Baddegi Road in Niger State.
According to reports, the mishap took place near Essa village, situated just beyond Agaie on the route to Baddegi.
Eyewitnesses from the local community stated that the accident happened at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
Most of the casualties were reportedly people attempting to collect fuel from the tanker before it detonated.
Comrade Farouk Mohammed Kawo, the Niger State chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) and National Ex-Officio of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), verified the occurrence to LEADERSHIP.
