Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), has announced plans to convene a meeting with regulatory bodies and LPG producers to address the recent escalation in cooking gas prices nationwide.
This announcement was made during the inauguration of the LPG Grassroots Penetration and Cylinder Distribution Programme for the South-West Zone, which took place in Lagos on Monday.
The programme, spearheaded by the Decade of Gas Secretariat in partnership with private sector stakeholders, involved distributing 250 fully filled LPG cylinders to low-income families in Lagos.
This effort aligns with the Federal Government’s ambitious target to transition 250,000 households annually to clean cooking gas by 2030, covering all 774 local government areas across Nigeria.

Speaking to the press at the event, Minister Ekpo highlighted the steep rise in LPG prices, revealing that a 12.5-kilogram cylinder currently retails at approximately ₦16,200, compared to ₦13,500 just last month.
He stated, “I was informed this morning that gas prices have increased once again.
“I plan to bring together regulators and producers for discussions aimed at reversing this trend. Our objective is to ensure gas remains both affordable and accessible.
“Energy security encompasses both cost-effectiveness and supply reliability, and we are committed to tackling the underlying causes of this price hike.”
The minister reiterated the government’s dedication to advancing gas as a reliable and affordable energy option for Nigerian homes.
