On October 25, the tranquil Zuma Golf Resort in Niger State will welcome top golfers from all over Nigeria for the Nigeria @65 Independence Kitty tournament.
This marks the first-ever event celebrating the nation’s independence, proudly hosted by the FCT Golf Association based in Abuja.
The competition enjoys the support of Galaxy Backbone and the Shola Mese Foundation as co-sponsors. According to Akabom Enebong, Chairman of the FCT Golf Association, participants will enjoy the challenge of the course nestled along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, with the majestic Zuma Rock providing a stunning backdrop.
While the organizers initially expected around 50 players, Enebong revealed that nearly 70 golfers have expressed their enthusiasm to compete.
He also noted that commemorative gifts will be reserved exclusively for the first 30 players who complete their registration.
The champion will be determined by the lowest net score achieved over 18 holes.
Moreover, special awards will be presented for categories such as the longest drive and closest to the pin, celebrating outstanding performances during the event.
Enebong explained that the tournament’s launch was postponed due to the unfortunate passing of a key member of the FCT Golf Association.
He emphasized that this event not only honors Nigeria’s progress since gaining independence in 1960 but also serves as a platform to foster camaraderie among golfers. Additionally, it highlights the FCT Golf Association’s vision under his leadership, focusing on grassroots initiatives and expanding golf’s appeal to a broader community within the Federal Capital Territory.
