Nigeria Police Successfully Return Chinese Crime Boss to China
In a significant victory against international criminal networks, the Nigeria Police Force has facilitated the extradition of Dai Qisheng, a prominent Chinese gang leader, back to China. This operation underscores Nigeria’s growing role in global law enforcement cooperation.
Collaborative Efforts Between Nigeria and China
DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, revealed that the mission was carried out through a coordinated effort involving the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, the INTERPOL NCB in Beijing, and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria. This joint operation highlights the strength of international partnerships in tackling cross-border crime.
Background of the Fugitive and Arrest Details
Dai Qisheng, who was wanted for masterminding violent criminal activities in Guizhou Province, China, escaped the country in 2024 after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued an arrest warrant. After months on the run, Nigerian INTERPOL agents located and apprehended him in Abuja on August 8, 2025.
Repatriation and Its Significance
Following his capture, Dai was repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under a police-to-police cooperation agreement facilitated by INTERPOL. This successful extradition demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence sharing and operational collaboration between nations.
Statements from Nigerian Police Leadership
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the operation as a clear indication of Nigeria’s dedication to upholding international security and justice. He stated,
“This achievement sends a strong warning to criminals worldwide: Nigeria will not serve as a refuge for those evading justice.”
The IGP further stressed the critical role of global alliances and information exchange in dismantling sophisticated transnational crime syndicates.
Nigeria’s Commitment to Global Security
DCP Adejobi emphasized that this case exemplifies Nigeria’s determination to enforce the rule of law and actively participate in international efforts to combat crime. With transnational criminal activities on the rise-Interpol reports a 15% increase in cross-border organized crime cases in 2024-such collaborations are more vital than ever.
Looking Ahead: Strengthening International Policing Networks
As criminal enterprises become increasingly globalized, Nigeria’s proactive stance in partnering with international agencies sets a precedent for other nations. Similar to how the recent extradition of a European cybercrime ring leader from South Africa to Germany showcased effective cross-continental cooperation, Nigeria’s role in this case reinforces the importance of unified law enforcement strategies.
