Nigeria’s Super Eagles recently concluded an international window that left much to be desired, managing a draw against South Africa and narrowly defeating Rwanda, according to Soccernet.ng.
Although earning four points out of a possible six appears reasonable, it ultimately fell short of the expectations needed for Eric Chelle’s squad to maintain a strong position in the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.
With just two matches remaining, the Nigerian side is banking on potential missteps from their rivals while ensuring they secure wins in their upcoming fixtures.

Representing Nigeria on the international stage remains a coveted honor for many players, a sentiment strongly echoed by Bruno Onyemaechi.
The Olympiacos defender, who celebrated winning the Greek Super League title in May with his club, emphasized the importance of consistent playing time at the club level to maintain his place in the national team setup.
“Getting regular minutes on the pitch is crucial for me because without sufficient game time, it becomes challenging to stay in the national squad. Wearing the national jersey is something I deeply cherish, so that’s where my focus lies,” the 26-year-old shared in an interview with Brila.

Reflecting on his initial half-year stint in Greece, Onyemaechi expressed pride in achieving silverware with such a prestigious club.
“It’s been an incredible journey. Joining a club with such a rich history and winning two trophies in my first season stands out as one of my proudest moments.
“The environment here is quite different from what I experienced at Boavista. However, being part of a bigger club means greater expectations and pressure to win the league, which is definitely more intense than what I faced in Portugal,” Onyemaechi added.

Despite featuring in both of Nigeria’s matches during the September international break, Onyemaechi has only accumulated nine minutes of playing time for Olympiacos this season, highlighting his determination to earn more opportunities on the field.
