Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has officially opened the state-of-the-art North West University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, marking a pivotal development for the institution established by Senator Aliyu Wamakko.
This facility stands as the inaugural teaching hospital within the North West geopolitical region, having received formal endorsement from the Federal Executive Council earlier this May.
During the launch event, Governor Aliyu reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to collaborating closely with North West University to elevate healthcare standards throughout Sokoto State.
He highlighted that the newly commissioned hospital is poised to become a vital healthcare hub, alleviating the community’s heavy reliance on Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital for medical admissions and curbing the trend of seeking treatment outside the region.
Governor Aliyu also lauded Senator Wamakko for his visionary leadership and significant efforts that have driven substantial progress in the state’s healthcare sector.
In response, Senator Wamakko, the founder and proprietor of North West University, commended Governor Aliyu’s discreet yet impactful contributions across multiple fields.
Furthermore, the senator revealed intentions to commence the enrollment of medical students in the upcoming academic session, alongside plans to launch a postgraduate school within the university.
Professor Mukhtar Umar Bunza, Vice Chancellor of North West University, expressed appreciation to the Federal Executive Council for granting the institution a comprehensive operational license.
The inauguration concluded with a guided tour of the hospital’s various departments, with Governor Aliyu and Senator Wamakko accompanied by Dr. Lawal Bello, the hospital’s Chief Medical Administrator.
