The Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum (NENF), a coalition of socio-cultural and political leaders across the 19 northern states, has demanded that President Bola Tinubu immediately sack Nigeria’s Service Chiefs and reshuffle his cabinet, warning that the nation is sliding deeper into insecurity and misgovernance.
In a strongly worded statement issued Sunday in Abuja and signed by its Convener, Dominic Alancha, the Forum said it had “deeply examined the painful conditions of the people of Northern Nigeria and the nation at large” and, after wide consultations, resolved that urgent corrective action is non-negotiable.
The group expressed disappointment with what it described as the “glaring underperformance” of several ministers, insisting that the present cabinet lacks the competence and political capital to effectively drive the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
A ministerial appointment is not merely a reward for loyalty; it is a critical assignment. We therefore call on President Tinubu to immediately dissolve and reshuffle the Federal Executive Council (FEC), replacing underperforming ministers with individuals of proven integrity, exceptional capability and significant political influence,” the statement read.

NENF argued that a stronger cabinet is necessary not just for national progress but also for Tinubu’s political survival ahead of the 2027 general elections.
On insecurity, the Forum painted a grim picture of Northern Nigeria, warning that terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping have devastated farming, commerce, and transportation. It described the situation as a “full-blown catastrophe.”
According to the statement, the current Service Chiefs have failed despite being given enormous resources, and must therefore be replaced. The Forum demanded the appointment of fresh military leaders with clear, results-driven mandates and also called for the declaration of a state of emergency on security in the North.
“This is not a call for militarization but for a targeted, multi-agency emergency operation to flush out terrorists, dismantle their networks, and restore order,” it stressed.
While commending Tinubu for bold economic reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates, NENF said these steps must be matched with stronger measures to cushion citizens from hardship.
It urged accelerated palliative distribution, large-scale investment in agriculture and manufacturing, and visible improvements in power, transport, and infrastructure.
The Forum also warned of a growing disconnect between the government and the people, urging Tinubu to show more empathy and share in the sacrifices Nigerians are enduring.
“We supported the President’s ambition and desire to support him again in 2027, but that support is contingent on effective, empathetic and decisive governance. The time for action is now,” the Forum declared.
