Nottingham Forest has parted ways with head coach Ange Postecoglou after just 40 days at the helm, following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
The club made the announcement via social media, attributing the decision to a series of underwhelming performances and results, though no additional information was disclosed.
Postecoglou was brought in on September 9, handpicked by Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, in the wake of the contentious departure of former manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
Despite high hopes, the Australian coach was unable to register a single victory in eight matches, leaving the team precariously positioned just one point and one place above the Premier League relegation zone.
This brief spell now marks the shortest managerial tenure in Premier League history, surpassing the previous record of 41 days set by Les Reed at Charlton in 2006. Furthermore, Postecoglou oversaw only five league fixtures, the second-lowest number for any Premier League manager, narrowly exceeding Frank de Boer’s short-lived term at Crystal Palace in 2017.
Postecoglou’s stint began on a difficult note with a 3-0 loss at Arsenal and included a painful Carabao Cup exit where Forest squandered a 2-0 halftime advantage against Swansea, conceding twice in stoppage time. The team managed a 1-1 draw at Burnley and a 2-2 Europa League stalemate after Real Betis scored a late equalizer. However, this brief optimism was followed by four straight defeats: home losses to Sunderland and Midtjylland, then away defeats at Newcastle and Chelsea.
With the club now embroiled in a fierce battle to steer clear of relegation, the search for a new manager has become an immediate priority as Nottingham Forest navigates a demanding Premier League season.
