The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Governing Council has officially endorsed Professor Uduma O. Uduma as the institution’s incoming Vice-Chancellor.
This new leadership role will commence on February 11, 2026, coinciding with the conclusion of the current Vice-Chancellor’s term.
Isa Yuguda, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of NOUN’s Governing Council, revealed this development during a press briefing held in Abuja on Friday.
He explained that the appointment was made following a thorough review and recommendation by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, which the Governing Council subsequently ratified.
“We are pleased to confirm that Professor Uduma O. Uduma has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor, effective from the 11th of February, 2026,” Yuguda stated.
Professor Uduma, who is both a Professor of Philosophy and Logic and a qualified Barrister-at-Law, brings extensive expertise in academic administration, research, and institutional advancement to his new position.
Born on January 30, 1966, he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Calabar, graduating top of his faculty.
He further advanced his studies by obtaining a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Lagos and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.
Throughout his career at NOUN, Professor Uduma has held numerous significant roles, including Head of Department, Director of General Studies, Director of Academic Planning, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
Additionally, during his tenure as Study Centre Director in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, he notably expanded student enrollment from 496 to more than 2,000, demonstrating his effective leadership.
Yuguda expressed strong confidence in Professor Uduma’s capacity to lead the university forward.
“As Professor Uduma prepares to take office on February 11, 2026, the University eagerly anticipates his guidance and strategic vision. We trust that his profound knowledge and leadership will propel NOUN’s ongoing development and achievements,” he concluded.
