The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, was marred by chaos after fans of Kano Pillars stormed the pitch and launched attacks on match officials, players, and staff members of the visiting team.
The game initially saw Kano Pillars take an early lead through Mustapha Jibrin in the 9th minute, with the home supporters anticipating a win. However, the atmosphere shifted dramatically in stoppage time when Adams Mustapha netted a late equalizer for Shooting Stars, sparking unrest among the home crowd.
According to a Summary Jurisdiction Notice dated October 13 and signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, Kano Pillars were found culpable of several violations. These included failing to provide sufficient security measures, allowing fans to breach restricted zones, and enabling misconduct that led to assaults on the away team and match officials.
The official statement highlighted that Kano Pillars did not implement adequate security protocols, which permitted unauthorized individuals to invade the pitch. Furthermore, the club neglected to control their supporters, resulting in harassment and physical attacks on Shooting Stars players and referees.
As a consequence, the NPFL has deducted three points and three goals from Kano Pillars’ tally due to the assault on match officials. The club has also been fined a total of ₦4 million for lapses including insufficient security, throwing hazardous objects onto the field, failure to manage fan behavior, and actions that tarnished the league’s reputation. An additional ₦2 million fine was imposed for the physical attacks on the npfl-match/” title=”Explosive Chaos: … … Launch Attack on 3SC Players During Intense … Clash (Video)”>visiting players and officials.
Moreover, Kano Pillars must pay ₦1.5 million in compensation, distributing ₦250,000 each to the affected match officials. Another ₦2 million fine covers medical expenses and damages related to the injuries sustained by Shooting Stars players and officials.
In a further disciplinary measure, Kano Pillars are mandated to relocate their home games to Katsina for the remainder of the season or at least for ten matches. This sanction will remain until the club demonstrates effective measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. Until then, the Sani Abacha Stadium will be off-limits for Kano Pillars’ home fixtures.
The club has also been instructed to identify and present the individuals responsible for the violent outbreak and provide evidence of their prosecution. Additionally, Kano Pillars must submit a comprehensive security plan for matchdays to the NPFL within seven days of receiving this notice.
Finally, the club has 48 hours to either comply with the summary jurisdiction or file an appeal.
