Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North Senatorial District and serves as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, has vehemently denied recent claims suggesting that the Federal Government has initiated legal proceedings against him in an Abuja High Court. The allegations accuse him of using offensive language towards Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
In an official statement released by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Romanus Uzor, Senator Nwebonyi dismissed the report as a deliberate falsehood crafted by individuals seeking attention.
The statement emphasized that the online news outlet’s assertion that the Federal Government filed a lawsuit against the senator is entirely baseless, misleading, and fabricated.
“The claim that the Federal Government of Nigeria has taken legal action against Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi over alleged inappropriate remarks directed at Senator Natasha is completely unfounded,” the statement clarified.
“While such a malicious and groundless report would typically not warrant a response, it is necessary to clarify the facts to prevent the public from being deceived by political agitators and troublemakers. It is important to note that the Federal Government has previously filed a criminal defamation case against Senator Natasha, which remains active in a competent court,” the statement continued.
“From a legal standpoint, it is both illogical and procedurally impossible for the Federal Government to pursue a separate case against Senator Nwebonyi on the same matter,” it added.
“Senator Nwebonyi currently has no ongoing litigation with the Federal Government. This false narrative is the product of political adversaries, media trials targeting Natasha, and other malicious entities intent on damaging Senator Nwebonyi’s sterling reputation and distinguished public service record,” the statement concluded.
The spokesperson urged the public to reject these fabrications, describing them as a calculated smear campaign designed to misinform, confuse, and stir unnecessary political discord.
“Senator Nwebonyi remains dedicated to his legislative duties and steadfast in his commitment to serving his constituents and the nation as a whole,” the media aide affirmed.
