NYSC Issues Strong Warning to Prospective Corps Members: Beware of Using Fake Certificates!

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a stern warning to Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course, emphasizing the necessity of submitting authentic academic and personal documents during registration to avoid legal consequences.

According to official reports, the Orientation Course is set to begin nationwide on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, with registration closing promptly at midnight on Friday, 26th September 2025.

The formal swearing-in will take place on Friday, 26th September, while the closing ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, 14th October 2025.

Notably, the Kwara State camp will operate on a distinct timetable, running from Tuesday, 30th September to Monday, 20th October 2025.

In a statement released by the Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, and published on the NYSC’s official Facebook page, the Corps reiterated its uncompromising position against document forgery and fraudulent practices.

“Prospective Corps Members must not submit counterfeit documents during registration. Offenders will be apprehended, handed over to the appropriate authorities, and prosecuted accordingly,” the DG warned.

The NYSC also highlighted that graduates from monotechnics and polytechnics are required to present their National Diploma certificates alongside other credentials during camp registration.

Graduates trained abroad were reminded to bring their international passports and original copies of all uploaded documents as these are mandatory for verification.

“It is imperative that foreign-trained graduates present their International Passports and original credentials upon arrival. This requirement is non-negotiable,” the statement clarified.

Regarding travel safety, the NYSC strongly advised against traveling at night, urging Corps Members to prioritize their safety over punctuality.

“After 6pm, all prospective Corps Members should halt their journeys and spend the night at the nearest military barracks, police station, NYSC Secretariat, or Corps Lodge,” the DG recommended.

“We cannot stress enough: night travel is strongly discouraged by the NYSC.”

PCMs were further encouraged to use only government-approved motor parks to minimize the risk of encountering criminal activities.

Addressing the issue of lost call-up letters, the NYSC instructed those who received theirs from their institutions to obtain a police report and sworn affidavit before returning to their schools for assistance. Those who printed their letters online can simply reprint them.

The Corps also issued a firm warning to defaulters and impersonators.

“Individuals who fail to report for service as indicated in their call-up letters will face prosecution under the NYSC Act. Similarly, anyone attempting to re-enlist after already receiving a Certificate of Service or Exemption will be prosecuted,” Brigadier-General Nafiu emphasized.

Special provisions were announced for certain groups, including married, pregnant, and nursing mothers posted outside their husbands’ states, who may be allowed to serve in their spouses’ locations.

To qualify for this consideration, applicants must provide proof of marriage, valid identification of their husbands, and evidence of residence.

Additionally, medical and health-related graduates must present proof of registration with their respective professional bodies before camp registration.

All prospective Corps Members are also required to submit a medical fitness certificate issued by a government or military hospital, bearing the official stamp of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
