On Thursday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo mourned the passing of Solomon Ewuga, the ex-Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the loss as deeply regrettable.
While attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Obasanjo reflected on Ewuga’s life, highlighting him as a distinguished and accomplished individual who excelled in nearly every endeavor he pursued.
The statement, issued by Obasanjo’s media representative, Kehinde Akinyemi, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, paid tribute to Ewuga’s multifaceted career and dedication to public service.
Obasanjo noted, “From his early days in journalism to his roles in academia and government, Solomon consistently exhibited professionalism, strong leadership, and effective management skills that set him apart.”
He added, “Ewuga was always eager to contribute to the nation’s development. In 1999, he ventured into politics by contesting the Nasarawa State governorship, a race he lost to Dr. Abdullahi Adamu, who later appointed him as his Deputy.”
“Shortly after, I appointed him as Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory when I assumed the presidency in 1999,” Obasanjo recalled.
“During his tenure from 1999 to 2001, Solomon played a vital role in our national revival efforts, demonstrating unwavering commitment, resilience, and exemplary leadership within the Ministry.”
“His service extended to the legislative arm as well, where he represented Nasarawa North Senatorial District in the 7th Senate from 2011 to 2015. His efforts to foster cooperation between the Executive and Legislature were commendable.”
“Though he was a dedicated representative of his district, Solomon’s vision was truly national, guiding his selfless contributions across various Senate Committees.”
Obasanjo described Ewuga as “a humble, straightforward, and devoted patriot whose enduring legacy is reflected in the significant impact he made. His integrity, humility, and insightful contributions will be sorely missed.”
Concluding, he extended heartfelt sympathies on behalf of himself and his family, praying for divine comfort for Ewuga’s loved ones and eternal peace for his soul.
