On Tuesday, Governor Monday Okpeholo of Edo State issued a stern directive to members of the State Executive Council (SEC), insisting that any Commissioner attending meetings without wearing the Tinubu-branded cap would be asked to leave. He emphasized that every member must visibly show their allegiance to President Bola Tinubu.
This declaration came during the swearing-in ceremony for newly confirmed Commissioners, alongside the inauguration of various commissions and agency boards.
Governor Okpeholo acknowledged that his electoral success was largely due to the unwavering support of President Tinubu.
He reminded the Commissioners that their appointments were solely intended to serve the interests and well-being of Edo State’s citizens.
“Our achievements would not have been possible without a committed president. In previous elections, the absence of presidential backing was a major challenge, but today, we express our gratitude,” he stated.
“I will not tolerate any Commissioner attending our Executive Council meetings without this Asiwaju cap. If you come without it or without proper attire, you will be sent away,” the Governor warned firmly.
Governor Okpeholo further stressed that his administration prioritizes effective governance over mere rhetoric, focusing on delivering tangible benefits to the people.
He made it clear that corruption would not be accepted under his watch, emphasizing that the Commissioners’ roles were not for personal gain.
“Each of you has been thoroughly vetted and confirmed by the State House of Assembly based on merit. Your appointments are not rewards or favors but a call to serve Edo State’s populace,” he explained.
“Our government was elected on the promise of practical governance-aimed at directly improving the lives of our people.
“We are committed to service delivery and achieving measurable outcomes that positively impact every community within the state.
“While I congratulate you on your well-deserved appointments, remember that your positions are not avenues for personal enrichment. You are here to serve, to sacrifice, and to enhance the quality of life for Edo residents.
“I urge you to prepare for the work ahead, as your effectiveness will be judged by the improvements you bring to our communities.
“This administration maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on corruption. You are expected to demonstrate discipline, collaborate as a team, and share a unified vision.
“Above all, your loyalty must be to the people of Edo State. History will evaluate us based on our deeds, not our intentions.”
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fegbemi (SAN), was also present at the inauguration of the new cabinet members.
