His Royal Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has entered a traditional sevenday period of seclusion in Ile-Ife, Osun State, as part of the customary preparations for the annual Olojo Festival.

According to a release from Otunba Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, the monarch announced that this year’s spiritual observance will focus on prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and enduring development. He also called on key figures, especially traditional rulers within the global Oduduwa community, to champion unity as the essential foundation for achieving these aspirations.

The Olojo Festival, which translates to “Day of the First Light,” commemorates the moment the Creator brought the earth into existence. Recognized as one of the most ancient and revered cultural celebrations in Oduduwa land, it embodies themes of creation, renewal, and affirms Ile-Ife’s sacred status as the birthplace of humanity.

Before commencing his seclusion, the Ooni invoked blessings upon Nigerians nationwide, praying for healing, divine favor, and the nation’s restoration.

“I urge all Nigerians to foster unity, peace, tolerance, and mutual love,” the Ooni emphasized, “for without these virtues, our country will continue to face division and stagnation.”

He encouraged citizens to transcend ethnic and religious divides, highlighting that Nigeria’s true strength is found in its rich diversity.

“My prayers are for Nigeria and her people. I seek the Almighty’s mercy on this land. May peace, unity, progress, and blessings abound. To all descendants of Oduduwa worldwide, I implore you to remain peaceful, united, and committed to collective advancement,” the monarch declared.

Additionally, the Ooni appealed to political leaders to govern with integrity, fairness, and empathy, stressing that leadership must always prioritize the well-being of the populace.

He noted that no nation prospers when its leaders disregard the needs and voices of its citizens.

The seven-day seclusion is a sacred interval of spiritual cleansing during which the Ooni refrains from public engagements to meditate and pray. This ritual is regarded as a profound duty that strengthens the monarch’s connection to the divine and ancestral spirits, empowering him to intercede on behalf of his people and the nation at large.
