Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the newly appointed Olubadan, has reached out to Public Relations (PR) professionals, urging their collaboration to ensure a prosperous tenure as the 44th Olubadan and to foster the advancement of Ibadan.
This appeal was made during a courtesy call by members of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Oyo State chapter, led by Mr. Goke Adelakun, at the monarch’s residence in Bodija, Ibadan.
In his address, Oba Ladoja acknowledged PR experts as vital contributors to society, emphasizing that their influence extends across all levels of community life.
He expressed admiration for the increasing involvement of youth in the field of public relations, highlighting the indispensable role these practitioners play in driving national progress.
The monarch particularly emphasized the necessity of PR support, recognizing their efforts as crucial to the success of his leadership in Ibadanland.
“I am grateful for your visit, which symbolizes your solidarity with me as the Olubadan-designate.
My role is that of a coordinator, chosen by the people to spearhead the development of Ibadanland.
“Our success depends on collective effort, and I will rely on your support to fulfill my duties as your oba. It is essential that we highlight and celebrate the positive aspects of Ibadanland while addressing its challenges.
“Reflecting on our childhoods, when at eight or nine years old we roamed freely across Ibadan, even at night, without fear, reminds me of a safer, more vibrant era.
“We used to enjoy late-night cinema outings, a testament to the peaceful environment we once had. These are the values and conditions we aim to restore.
“With the widespread backing I am receiving, I am confident that these goals are attainable. It is important that the public understands our genuine intentions to make Ibadan a secure and welcoming city.
“Ibadan has historically nurtured many distinguished individuals, educating them before they returned to lead their communities. The city is a home to many, and this tradition will continue, reflecting the vision of Ibadan’s founders.
“As a cultural, judicial, and educational hub of Nigeria, Ibadan holds a special place. I invite you to embrace this identity with me.
“Ibadan belongs to all Yoruba people, but it requires each person’s contribution to thrive. This is where your expertise in public relations becomes invaluable,” the Olubadan-designate concluded.
Prior to this, Mr. Goke Adelakun, chairman of NIPR’s Oyo State chapter, explained that their visit was to celebrate Oba Ladoja’s ascension as the 44th Olubadan, affirming their belief that his leadership is divinely ordained.
He expressed gratitude on behalf of the institute for the former governor’s support of NIPR during his tenure in office.
Adelakun praised Oba Ladoja’s humility, dedication, resilience, and leadership qualities, which have earned him widespread respect across the state.
“Kabiyesi, your legacy in public service, whether as a senator or governor, has been marked by lasting and meaningful achievements,” he remarked.
