The House of Representatives’ minority caucus is scheduled to convene in Abuja on Monday to deliberate on the legal action initiated by their leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, aimed at halting an alleged scheme to unseat him from his leadership role.
This development was revealed in a meeting notice circulated on Sunday, jointly signed by Agbedi Frederick, head of the Peoples Democratic Party caucus; Afam Ogene representing the Labour Party; Muktar Umar-Zakari of the New Nigeria Peoples Party; and Peter Uzokwe from the Young Peoples Party (YPP).
“All Minority Members of the House of Representatives are hereby summoned to an urgent session to address recent events concerning the minority leadership, with a focus on reviewing the lawsuit filed by Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, against members of all minority parties in the 10th House of Representatives,” the notice stated.
The agenda outlined: “Discussion on the legal challenge initiated by House Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, against all Minority Parties, followed by Any Other Business (AOB).”
According to LEADERSHIP, the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a summons to the National Assembly’s management, the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, and nine other respondents-including representatives from opposition parties-to appear within 30 days. This follows a suit filed by Chinda seeking to prevent what he describes as a planned effort to remove him from his principal officer position.
The summons, dated September 16, 2025, and issued by Dr. J.Y. Musa, SAN, of Dr. J.Y. Musa, SAN & Co., legal counsel for Chinda, alleges that the attempt to oust him is linked to his relationship with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
“You are hereby required, within thirty days of receiving this writ, to enter an appearance in the legal action initiated by Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda. Failure to do so may result in the case proceeding without your presence and a judgment rendered accordingly,” the document stated.
“This writ must be served within twelve calendar months from its issuance date, with the possibility of renewal for six months from the last chinda-sues-abbas-over-minority-leader-removal/” title=”… Takes Abbas and Others to Court Over Alleged Plot to Oust Him as …”>renewal date, including the day of such renewal, but not beyond,” it added.
The defendants-including Speaker Abbas, the National Assembly Clerk, and opposition parties-are permitted to respond either personally or through legal representatives by submitting the appropriate forms to the Federal High Court Registrar in Abuja, or by sending them via registered mail.
In his legal claim, Chinda contends: “A DECLARATION that any attempt to remove me from my role as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives on the basis of my association with Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the current Minister and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, infringes upon my constitutional right to Freedom of Association as protected under Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.”
