Governor Ademola Adeleke has deployed a high-ranking government team to the Akinlalu community following recent violent clashes involving the Amotekun security personnel. Concurrently, the state administration has initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the events.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke conveyed profound sorrow over the loss of lives in the community, having been briefed by his Special Adviser on Security Affairs with an initial report on the situation.
He extended heartfelt sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy and offered prayers for their solace during this difficult time.
“Following the initial briefing, additional updates were provided to the Deputy Governor by the security team. A State Security Council meeting is slated for Monday to thoroughly examine this incident alongside other emerging security challenges within the state,” the statement detailed.
Governor Adeleke has committed to uncovering the underlying causes of the deadly confrontation between the local residents and the Amotekun operatives. He has instructed that a senior delegation comprising government officials and security leaders visit the impacted community after the upcoming security council session.
The delegation is expected to include the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, the Commissioners for Information, Political Affairs, and Transportation, the State Attorney General, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Legal Matters, as well as heads of various security agencies.
“As a governor who upholds the rule of law, I assure that this case is under thorough investigation, and any violations will be addressed strictly within legal frameworks. I have convened a security council meeting to discuss this incident and other concerns, such as potential spillover effects from banditry activities in Kwara,” the governor affirmed.
“I offer my deepest condolences to the victims of this unfortunate event. I call on the people of Akinlalu to remain calm as the government takes necessary actions. I share in their grief, and investigations are actively ongoing,” the statement concluded.
