Heroic Rescue: 7 Victims Saved from Devastating Auto Crash Scene in Oyo

The Oyo State Fire Service Agency successfully rescued seven men involved in a collision between two petrol tankers in the Arinkinkin area of Ogbomoso.

Dr. Moroof Akinwande, Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, confirmed that the victims sustained minor injuries and were promptly transported to Bowen Teaching Hospital by officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogbomoso division, for medical care.

Following the incident, Akinwande noted that traffic flow was quickly restored, allowing daily activities in the vicinity to continue uninterrupted.

According to the Governor’s special adviser, the fire outbreak was reported at precisely 13:15 hours by a caller named Mr. George Ogunlade, who alerted authorities about a tanker on fire.

Firefighters, led by CFM Oladejo Kola, responded swiftly and were dispatched to the scene without delay.

Upon arrival, they found two trucks involved in a collision-one carrying maize and the other transporting unidentified chemicals-both engulfed in flames.

The fire service team acted decisively to prevent the blaze from spreading to the maize-laden truck.

Ultimately, the fire was fully extinguished, with only the chemical-laden tanker sustaining fire damage, while the grain truck was successfully saved.

In a separate incident early Tuesday morning, a fire ravaged six rooms and destroyed valuable belongings at a residential property in Ogbere Moradeyo, located in the Oremeji area of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Yemi Akinwande, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, confirmed the fire was reported at 05:55 hours via telephone.

Once the location was identified, firefighters under the leadership of CFS Adesina Olusoji were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found a private six-room residence ablaze. The team quickly contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring structures.

The blaze was extinguished through a joint effort with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command. Following the operation, the officer in charge provided a fire safety briefing to residents.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The fire’s origin was traced to a discarded cigarette stub carelessly dropped by one of the occupants, which ignited nearby flammable materials and set the building ablaze.

The building suffered extensive damage, but firefighters managed to save properties valued at millions of naira.

In light of these incidents, Akinwande urged the public to remain vigilant about fire hazards, especially during the dry ’ember months’ when fire risks are heightened.

He stressed the importance of keeping emergency fire service contact numbers readily accessible and encouraged households to equip their homes with fire extinguishers to mitigate potential fire outbreaks.

For prompt assistance, residents are advised to report fire emergencies immediately by calling the agency’s emergency lines at 08067439223, 08054353501, or dialing 615.
