Mbah’s move to APC a clear sign of PDP’s demise in South-East– Ex-VON DG

Mbah’s Switch to APC Signals the Beginning of PDP’s Decline in South-East – Former VON DG

Osita Okechukwu, the former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), declared on Sunday that Governor Peter Mbah’s apcpdp-and-nnpp-supporters-decamp-to-adc-in-katsina/” title=”…, … and NNPP supporters decamp to ADC in Katsina”>recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) unmistakably signals the collapse of the PDP’s influence in the South-East region.

Okechukwu made this observation in response to the evolving political landscape in Enugu State.
The APC leadership has finalized arrangements to formally welcome Governor Mbah alongside other PDP officeholders into their ranks.
This significant event, marking the integration of former PDP members into the APC, is scheduled for Tuesday at Okpara Square in Enugu.
The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, announced the governor’s forthcoming switch to the party last Friday.

According to Okechukwu, this development represents a pivotal moment, underscoring the South-East’s decisive break from the PDP.

He remarked, “Governor Mbah’s decision is a strategic and inevitable move that epitomizes the complete erosion of PDP’s control in the South-East.”

“This shift marks a dramatic transition from the PDP’s previous dominance-where it held all five state governorships in the region back in 1999-to a scenario where it will hold none by 2025.”
Okechukwu also referenced the late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, former Senate President, who once lamented that the PDP “rewards loyalty with betrayal,” suggesting that Mbah’s defection validates this critique.
He further condemned the PDP for its blatant neglect of fairness and justice, particularly highlighting the party’s violation of the Fourth Republic’s established zoning arrangement during the 2023 political season.

“The final blow to the PDP’s standing in the South-East was its intentional sidelining of the region amid disputes over the National Secretary position,” Okechukwu asserted.
He accused the PDP of repeatedly betraying, marginalizing, and mistreating the South-East, which justified Governor Mbah’s anticipated departure.

“Governor Mbah’s defection is not an isolated incident but rather the culmination of the South-East’s growing disenchantment with a party that failed to honor loyalty, fairness, and camaraderie,” concluded the former VON DG.
