On Thursday, Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential hopeful, visited the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School located in Tungan Nasara, Abuja, following alarming reports about the school’s unsanitary conditions.

Sharing the update on his Facebook page the next day, Obi mentioned that he had just returned from a series of engagements in Rome.

He was alerted to the dire situation by Dr. Moses Paul, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate vying for the AMAC chairmanship in the upcoming February 21, 2026 election.

Dr. Paul highlighted the severe challenges faced by the public primary school in Tungan Nasara, particularly the inadequate and unhygienic toilet facilities.

Deeply concerned by this information, Obi promptly made a trip to the school to assess the conditions personally.

“Witnessing the appalling state of the toilets was heartbreaking,” Obi remarked. “Such environments are hazardous to the health of both students and educators. No child deserves to study under these circumstances.”

In response, Obi contributed ₦2 million from his own funds to aid in constructing proper sanitation facilities and enhancing the school’s overall learning atmosphere.

He further committed to returning to the school to monitor the effective use of the donation and to ensure the completion of the renovation project.

Reaffirming his enduring belief, Obi emphasized that investing in education is paramount for Nigeria’s progress.

“Our children embody the promise of our nation. Their educational surroundings must mirror the importance we assign to their future,” he stated. “It is imperative for leaders to prioritize education and the well-being of our youth, guaranteeing that every Nigerian child learns in a safe and nurturing environment.”

He concluded by reiterating that education is the cornerstone of national development and echoed his well-known vision: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
