On Tuesday, students affiliated with the National Association of Oduduwa Students (NAOS), the Coalition of Yoruba Students, and the Yoruba Movement organized a demonstration in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. This protest was held in support of the Dangote Refinery amid its ongoing conflict with oil workers’ unions and nigeria-animation-industry-billion-dollar-potential/” title=”How …'s Animation Industry Could Become a Billion-Dollar Goldmine”>marketers, including the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), NUPENG, and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN).
The rally began at the Iwo Road Roundabout, located at the terminus of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, where participants marched through key city streets. They chanted slogans of unity and carried placards bearing messages such as “Protect Dangote Refinery,” “#StopFuelSabotageInNigeria,” “#EndPENGASSAN,” “#EndDAPPMAN,” “#DangoteRefineryIsOurPride,” and “#NoToSabotage.”
Wearing coordinated shirts with the slogan “Protect Dangote Refinery,” the demonstrators aimed to highlight to the Federal Government what they described as a deliberate effort by certain interest groups to undermine the operations of the refinery. This facility is recognized as Nigeria’s largest industrial project and the biggest single-train refinery in Africa.
During the event, NAOS President Olalere Adetunji spoke to the press, calling on President Bola Tinubu and relevant authorities to take immediate action to safeguard the refinery from ongoing disruptions.
“We appeal to the Federal Government to intervene promptly to shield the refinery from labor and marketers’ disputes that threaten Nigeria’s progress toward fuel independence,” Adetunji stated.
He also underscored the refinery’s critical role in diminishing Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products and fostering economic development through industrial expansion.
Throughout the peaceful protest, security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were deployed at key points to ensure public safety and order.
