Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, a prominent Islamic scholar based in Kaduna, has urged the Palestinian group Hamas to immediately free all Israeli civilian hostages unconditionally.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook account this past Saturday, Sheikh Gumi described Hamas’s decision to hold hostages as a strategic error.
He further emphasized that Hamas should reconsider its approach and focus on reclaiming their ancestral lands through what he termed a “just and honorable use of force.”
This commentary came in response to Hamas’s willingness to release Israeli captives amid a ceasefire proposal brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, who also called for an immediate halt to Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.
Sheikh Gumi expressed, “Hamas must release all civilian detainees without imposing any conditions. Taking hostages was a grave misjudgment from the outset.
“Their efforts should be redirected toward reclaiming their native territory through rightful and ethical means of resistance. This is their legitimate right to defend themselves. Victory, by Allah’s will, is on the horizon,” he concluded.
