Defence Chief Attributes Surge in Violence to Political Tensions and External Terror Funding
General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity across the nation. He emphasized that the intensifying violence is closely tied to the heightened political rivalry ahead of the 2027 elections, coupled with the influx of foreign funds fueling terrorist activities.
Highlighting the complex nature of the security challenges, Musa pointed out that political desperation among various factions is exacerbating the situation, creating fertile ground for armed groups to thrive. This trend is further aggravated by external financial support that sustains terror networks, complicating efforts to restore peace.
Recent data from security agencies indicate a sharp increase in violent incidents, with a 30% rise in targeted killings compared to the previous year. This surge underscores the urgent need for coordinated strategies that address both the political and financial dimensions of terrorism.
To counter these threats, the Defence Chief advocates for enhanced intelligence sharing, stricter monitoring of foreign transactions linked to terror financing, and inclusive political dialogue to reduce tensions. He also called on citizens to remain vigilant and support security forces in their mandate to protect lives and property.
