The Rivers State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Nigerians to reject the accusations made by Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), targeting President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Chief Tony Okocha, the APC chairman in Rivers State, dismissed Sowore’s claims as unfounded and without merit.
“Sowore has recently unleashed a fresh barrage of unfounded accusations against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike CON. These claims are nothing but the desperate outcries of a political figure who has been rejected by the electorate and is now fading into obscurity,” Okocha stated.
“It is astonishing and beneath the dignity of any rational citizen to label the President-or any title referring to the nation’s highest office-as a ‘criminal.'”
He urged Nigerians to resist Sowore’s attempts to tarnish the nation’s reputation, describing him as a divisive agitator who spreads misleading and disconnected narratives designed to create confusion and unrest.
Okocha further characterized Sowore as a manipulator whose tactics include fabrications, forgery, and unfounded provocations.
“It is imperative that we continue to reveal Sowore’s true nature and advocate for his prompt arrest and legal prosecution,” he added.
The APC leader also reminded Sowore, who publishes Sahara Reporters, that he is currently facing legal proceedings for cybercrime and defamation, which undermines his credibility to criticize the President.
“Sowore is presently undergoing trial for cybercrime and defamation. The Department of State Services (DSS) has charged him with disseminating false, inflammatory, and malicious content against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on social media platforms,” Okocha explained.
“His intentional falsehoods are designed to provoke public disorder, erode trust in institutions, and destabilize the country.”
“Given the serious nature of these charges, Sowore should exercise restraint and recognize that he lacks the moral authority to disparage dedicated leaders who are committed to national development,” he concluded.
