Authorities from the Rivers State Police Command have successfully apprehended a suspected car thief linked to a widely circulated video showing a robbery in the Choba area of Port Harcourt.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Rivers State, disclosed in a statement released on Thursday in Port Harcourt that the individual arrested is a 42-year-old man named Iruo Young.
According to Iringe-Koko, Young was taken into custody at his hideout located in the Ikoku neighborhood of Port Harcourt. The suspect confessed voluntarily, providing comprehensive details about his role in the carjacking incident.

“The crime occurred around 3:00 PM and involved the forceful seizure of a Toyota Avalon vehicle at gunpoint.”
“Utilizing intelligence-driven policing methods and technical assistance, officers from the Command successfully located and arrested one of the perpetrators, identified as Iruo Young, a 42-year-old male, at his refuge in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.”
“Upon questioning, the suspect willingly admitted to his participation and provided in-depth information regarding the robbery.”
“He remains in police custody as investigations continue to track down other suspects still at large, recover the stolen car, and seize the weapons used during the offense.”
In a related development, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, praised the officers involved for their prompt and effective response that led to the arrest.

He reiterated the Command’s firm stance against criminal activities, warning that Rivers State will not tolerate any sanctuary for offenders, and reaffirmed their dedication to protecting the lives and properties of residents throughout the state.
