The Rivers State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has categorically rejected rumors suggesting that Governor Siminalayi Fubara might switch allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing the media in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Dr. Robinson Ewor, the state PDP chairman, acknowledged that the governor, like any citizen, has the freedom to choose a political path he believes will best serve the interests of Rivers State. However, he clarified that the party has not received any official communication regarding such intentions, labeling the issue as a private matter concerning the governor alone.
Speculation about Governor Fubara’s political alignment intensified following the conclusion of the sixfubara-reinstatement/” title=”Rivers … Courts … in a Bold … Ahead of Rein…ment”>-month emergency administration, which was imposed on March 18 and lifted on September 18. Some reports allege that a peace accord signed by the governor in June included a clause for him to join the APC-a move perceived by some as a tactical effort to secure Rivers State’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election campaign in 2027.
The rumors gained further traction on Monday when Fubara was spotted alongside Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, during a visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

Critics also pointed out that during his statewide address marking the resumption of duties on September 18, Governor Fubara omitted any mention of the PDP’s efforts in contesting the emergency rule. The party, supported by at least 11 PDP governors, had legally challenged the emergency declaration, which many legal experts and public figures deemed unconstitutional.
Regarding the Rivers State House of Assembly’s move to investigate the former sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Etteh Ibas (retd), who governed the state during the emergency period, Dr. Ewor affirmed the legislature’s authority to conduct the probe. “While the sole administrator is not accountable to the people of Rivers State, he is answerable to the House of Assembly. The people did not elect him as governor,” he remarked, describing the appointment as both “unconstitutional and unnecessary.”
On the delicate reconciliation between Governor Fubara and the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, the PDP chairman called for openness, urging both leaders to disclose the details of their peace agreement. He emphasized that maintaining this harmony is crucial for the continued progress and stability of Rivers State.
