The victim was held captive until her family paid a ransom of N200,000, after which she was released.
The arrests were made following actionable intelligence received on September 22, 2025. The police tracked the suspects to their location late in the evening, leading to their prompt detention. Both suspects confessed during initial questioning, admitting to orchestrating the abduction by luring the woman via the dating platform.
Currently, the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network still at large. The victim has been safely reunited with her family and is receiving support.
In a statement, the Rivers State Police Command detailed the operation: “On September 21, 2025, at approximately 8:30 pm, two notorious kidnappers were arrested in Igbo Etche following a well-coordinated police operation. SP Iringe-Koko added, “Despite the pressure from our ongoing pursuit, the suspects managed to extort a ransom of Two Hundred Thousand Naira from the victim’s relatives before releasing her. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are intensifying efforts to bring other accomplices to justice.”
The Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A Adepoju, praised the dedication and courage of the officers involved in the operation.
