Her legal representative, Victor Giwa, confirmed her attendance at the upcoming Tuesday plenary session, emphasizing that all suspension-related requirements have been fulfilled.
“Our client has served the full duration of her suspension and is fully entitled to rejoin the Senate chamber,” Giwa remarked. “The Senate must uphold its own rules and the law, rather than personal biases.”
Earlier this year, Akpoti-Uduaghan faced suspension due to allegations linked to her protest against the reassignment of her senatorial seat. Critics widely viewed the suspension as politically charged, resulting in her exclusion from plenary meetings and the closure of her office.
The senator openly criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio, labeling his leadership style as authoritarian and accusing him of undermining the autonomy of fellow senators. Despite calls for an apology, she stood firm and declined to withdraw her statements.
“It is disappointing to witness the National Assembly being managed like a personal fiefdom,” she stated. “Every senator deserves equal dignity; no one should be marginalized.”
Her office, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, was reopened last month by the Sergeant-at-Arms, signaling her imminent reinstatement.
