How Prayer at Shiloh Sparked Skales’ Breakthrough in Music
Raoul Njeng-Njeng, widely recognized by his stage name Skales, credits a pivotal moment of prayer during the 2013 Shiloh event at the Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel) for revitalizing his music career. After parting ways with Empire Mate Entertainment (EME), the label owned by Banky W, Skales found himself at a crossroads, struggling to regain momentum in the industry.
The Turning Point: A Spiritual Commitment
During the Shiloh gathering, Skales’ friend and fellow artist Timaya invited him to participate in a unique exercise where attendees were encouraged to list seven specific desires they wished God to fulfill. Skales wrote down his aspiration to create a song that would resonate worldwide, repeating this wish seven times as instructed.
From Prayer to Global Recognition
Two years later, in 2015, Skales released “Shake Body,” a track that would become a defining hit in his discography. The song’s recent resurgence on the international stage-highlighted by Barcelona football star Lamine Yamal and his teammates dancing to it-has brought renewed attention to Skales’ work, underscoring the enduring impact of his prayer.
Reflecting on the Journey
Sharing his experience on X (formerly Twitter), Skales expressed gratitude for the unexpected and ongoing success of “Shake Body.” He wrote, “In 2013 @timayatimaya took me to Shiloh, where we were asked to write down seven prayers. I wrote a song that would take me to the ends of the earth seven times. Today, that prayer has manifested into a divine, never-ending anthem. Just when it seems to fade, something new about this song emerges. Thank you, Lord Jesus.”
The Power of Faith in Artistic Success
Skales’ story exemplifies how faith and perseverance can intersect to produce remarkable outcomes in creative fields. His journey from career uncertainty to international acclaim serves as an inspiring example for artists navigating challenges in the music industry.
According to recent data from the Nigerian Entertainment Conference, artists who integrate personal beliefs and community support into their careers often report higher resilience and sustained success, highlighting the importance of spiritual and emotional grounding in the competitive music landscape.
