The convener of the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest currently going on in Abuja, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies of firing live bullets at harmless protesters.
A trending video had shown the moment Sowore and other protesters scampered away after security forces fired gunshots and teargas at the crowd as they made their way to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Sowore, who argued that the protesters were peaceful during the rally, said on his X handle that the security operatives opened fire on them without any provocation.
He wrote: “The @PoliceNG team deployed to brutalize #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protesters arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, and his lawyer, @AloyEjimakor, as well as innocent bystanders. They were beaten and taken to the FCT command. The police must release them immediately!

“They didn’t particularly have any leadership; there were about 10 trucks that arrived at the same time as soon as we started the protest and people were coming around.
“There was no provocation on our part; it was orderly and peaceful; it was an unprovoked attack from the police force and a combined team of security people.”
