The Special Foundation recently wrapped up its 2025 Special Summer School initiative, positively influencing the lives of more than 24,500 children and young adults across 14 learning hubs situated in nine different states.
Running from July 28 to September 4, 2025, this program was hosted in underserved areas, providing vital educational opportunities, mentorship, and creative outlets during the extended holiday period. This approach ensured that learners remained engaged and continued to develop outside the conventional academic calendar.
In its eighth year since launching in 2018, the program has reached a diverse group of participants-from out-of-school youths in Minna, Niger State, who acquired skills in tailoring and shoemaking, to young adults in Nekede LGA, Owerri, Imo State, who explored solar energy technologies. The curriculum emphasized essential literacy, numeracy, and vocational training, while also nurturing creativity, self-confidence, and collaboration among attendees.
The success of the summer school was made possible through the dedication of volunteers, educators, and corporate collaborators including Bluechip Technologies, Credit Direct Limited, Descasio, Duale, Ovia & Alex-Adedipe Law, Macadams Baking Systems Nigeria Limited, De Miller Farms, UAC Foods, and Nigerian Bottling Company. Over 423 young professionals from partner organizations contributed their expertise and energy. Their combined efforts-from delivering engaging lessons and extracurricular activities to providing refreshments and school supplies-created a supportive environment where every child could learn, enjoy themselves, and flourish.
Driven by a mission to cultivate Africa’s future leaders, The Special Foundation’s programs and partnerships reflect a deep commitment to social impact. This shared vision has galvanized volunteers, institutions, and businesses to invest time and resources in expanding educational access for children in marginalized communities. The Special Summer School stands as a flagship initiative, designed to inspire learning, empower aspirations, and guarantee that no child is overlooked.
Founder Mr. Seyi Akinwale emphasized, “Our goal has always been to nurture a generation of young African leaders through education and opportunity.”
He added, “In 2025 alone, we have reached over 24,500 individuals across nine states and 14 centers. Looking ahead, we plan to extend our reach to 15 states next year, deepening our impact and touching even more lives.”
Akinwale further explained, “We focus on economically challenged communities to ensure every child has a chance. Our investment in their future is reflected in the summer school’s targeted design, which equips children with practical vocational skills and fosters a genuine enthusiasm for learning.”
Beyond academics and trade skills, the program also embraced the arts. At the Bariga center in Lagos, more than 470 participants showcased their talents in dance, poetry, and music, embodying the Foundation’s dedication to supporting diverse dreams-whether aspiring to be dancers, doctors, or engineers.
The Special Youth Leadership Foundation operates as a privately funded social impact organization committed to shaping Africa’s next generation of leaders by enriching their minds through education.
