Marc Cucurella reveals what sets Tosin Adarabioyo apart within Chelsea’s squad, according to Soccernet.ng.
The Spanish international has praised the Nigerian-eligible defender as one of the most vocal and commanding personalities in the Chelsea locker room.
Adarabioyo, aged 27, secured a free transfer move from Fulham to Chelsea in the summer of 2024, quickly becoming an integral part of Enzo Maresca’s tactical setup.
During his debut season, Adarabioyo played a key role in Chelsea’s triumphs in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, further cementing his reputation at Stamford Bridge.
Having shared the pitch with the centre-back since his arrival, Cucurella highlights that Adarabioyo’s influence extends beyond his defensive duties, with his commanding presence resonating strongly during training sessions.

“If I had to pick the loudest voice in the squad, it would probably be Tosin,” Cucurella shared with Chelseafc.com.
“On the training ground, he acts like the referee; he’s always talking. He’s the guy who constantly has something to contribute. During sessions, he sets his own rules and calls the shots!”

The former Barcelona and Getafe left-back even joked about Adarabioyo’s versatility, suggesting he could step in as an emergency goalkeeper if needed.
“I’d probably pick myself first, but if not, Tosin would be my choice because he’s tall and vocal, so he could probably make some decent saves,” Cucurella quipped when asked which outfield player might fill in as keeper.
Adarabioyo’s International Future: England or Nigeria?
Despite his impressive displays for Chelsea, Adarabioyo’s allegiance at the international level remains undecided. Born in London to Nigerian parents, he has represented England extensively at youth levels but has yet to break into the senior squad.

Still eligible to represent Nigeria, Adarabioyo has previously expressed openness to donning the Super Eagles jersey. In 2020, he mentioned his willingness to compete at the World Cup for either nation.
Having recently visited Nigeria, he has indicated that a decision regarding his international career is imminent.
Currently, Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle relies on defenders like William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, and Chidozie Awaziem at centre-back. However, Adarabioyo’s consistent performances for Chelsea keep him firmly in contention for a future call-up.
