In a historic achievement, Morocco clinched their third African Nations Championship (CHAN) crown by edging out Madagascar 3-2 in an electrifying final held at Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Kenya.
Oussama Lamlaoui emerged as the star of the match, netting two goals, including an extraordinary 40-yard strike that not only sealed the win but also earned him the Golden Boot with a tournament-high six goals.
The opening goal came from Lamlaoui, who capitalized on a perfectly timed through ball from Youssef Mehri that sliced through Madagascar’s defense, allowing him to finish clinically inside the box.
Madagascar responded swiftly when Toky Rakotondraibe exploited a defensive error to level the score. However, Morocco regained the advantage before halftime thanks to a well-placed finish by Sabir Bougrine.
In the 80th minute, Lamlaoui delivered the decisive blow with a breathtaking long-range effort, securing Morocco’s third CHAN title and reinforcing their dominance in the competition.
The 2025 edition of CHAN was uniquely co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, featuring 19 national teams and highlighting the depth of football talent across the continent. Morocco’s triumph not only adds to their legacy as the tournament’s most decorated team but also awards them a $3.5 million prize, underscoring their continued excellence in African football.
