Hairstylist and Skit Maker Brutally Murdered by Alleged Cult Members in Lagos

Hairstylist hacked to death by suspected cultists

In a tragic incident that has shocked the Lakowe community within Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, a well-known hairstylist and content creator, Austin Bature, was viciously attacked and killed by suspected cultists. The violent episode occurred in the early hours of last Thursday, leaving the neighborhood in distress.

Details of the Attack

According to eyewitness accounts, a group believed to be cult members forcefully entered the area searching for Austin. Upon locating his residence, they reportedly dragged him from his room and inflicted fatal injuries with machetes. Disturbingly, the assailants also severed one of his hands during the assault.

A local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous for safety reasons, recounted to Punch that the community was initially unaware of the cause of early morning disturbances. It was only later that they discovered Austin’s lifeless body, confirming the brutal nature of the attack.

Forewarning Through Social Media

Another community member revealed that Austin had posted a cryptic farewell message on his social media platform just two days before the incident, suggesting he anticipated imminent danger. This message has since sparked conversations about the increasing threats faced by creatives and entrepreneurs in the region.

“Austin was not only a talented hairstylist but also a popular skit maker with connections to several entertainers. Those close to him believe he sensed his fate, as evidenced by his final WhatsApp status update,” the resident added.

Context and Rising Concerns

This tragic event highlights the growing menace of cult-related violence in parts of Lagos State. Recent statistics from the Lagos State Police Command indicate a 15% increase in cult-related crimes over the past year, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance.

Similar incidents have been reported in neighboring communities, where young professionals and creatives have become targets of violent groups. Authorities are intensifying efforts to curb these activities, but residents continue to call for more proactive interventions to safeguard lives and livelihoods.
