In the wake of the successful commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation, representatives from the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) paid a visit to the FCT Commissioner of Police at the FCT Command Headquarters in Abuja.
During this engagement, the association honored its commitment by providing financial assistance to the children of fallen officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Moreover, IAWPA was presented with a list of beneficiaries eligible for scholarships, generously sponsored by Ambassador Sunny Akhigbe of Books Embassy.
As part of their support, the delegation also donated several cans of paint to aid in the renovation of the Public Relations Office within the FCT Police Command.
In a symbolic gesture, a newly designed Police flag was formally handed over to the FCT Commissioner of Police, intended for display at the Command Headquarters.
During the handover ceremony, Ambassador Emmanuel Nkweke, the International Spokesperson for IAWPA, commended the Inspector General of Police for receiving the accolade of ‘Most Friendly Inspector General of Police in Africa.’ He announced that, in honor of the IGP’s commendable leadership, IAWPA plans to launch the ‘Inspector General of Police SDG Football Tournament’ in the Federal Capital Territory.
Ambassador Nkweke explained that this tournament is designed to foster awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by engaging communities, encouraging unity, and specifically involving young people.
He elaborated on the tournament’s objectives, emphasizing its role in educating participants, fans, and the wider public about the SDGs, thereby nurturing a supportive environment for sustainable development initiatives.
Furthermore, the event aims to boost community involvement by bringing together police personnel, local residents, and youth, creating a platform for active participation in SDG-related programs.
Ambassador Nkweke also highlighted that the tournament will serve as a catalyst for promoting harmony, collaboration, and peaceful interactions among all participants, aligning perfectly with IAWPA’s mission to advance peace and sustainable progress.
Lastly, by focusing on youth engagement through football-a sport widely loved and followed-the initiative seeks to inspire younger generations to take part in meaningful conversations and actions that support the achievement of the SDGs.
