The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly denounced the engineered unrest and politically charged demonstrations occurring in various regions under the banner of the #FreeNnamdiKanu movement. Describing the situation as “the hand of Jacob and the voice of Esau,” the party emphasized the duplicitous nature behind these protests.
While acknowledging that freedom of speech and peaceful protests are fundamental pillars of democracy, the APC Lagos chapter stressed that the current events deviate significantly from genuine demands for justice.
Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the party’s spokesperson, characterized the protests as reckless political maneuvers orchestrated by opposition elements desperate to destabilize the nation as a last resort.
In an official release, Oladejo stated: “This demonstration is less about seeking justice and more about venting political frustration. It epitomizes the destructive tactics of those rejected by the electorate, who now exploit national concerns to regain relevance through chaos.”
He further expressed deep concern over the blatant support and sponsorship of these disruptive acts by certain opposition leaders who ought to act responsibly.
“Their participation is a textbook example of deceit-masking manipulation under the guise of activism, much like the biblical analogy of Jacob’s hand with Esau’s voice. However, they should be reminded that the streets will not restore what the ballot box has decisively taken away,” Oladejo added.
The statement also condemned the insensitivity of the protest organizers, highlighting the ongoing suffering in the South East region, which continues to grapple with the aftermath of prolonged violence, kidnappings, and enforced shutdowns. These protests, according to the APC, dishonor the memories of victims, disregarding the grief of widows, orphans, and devastated communities.
“For years, ordinary people in the South East have endured fear-merchants hesitant to open shops, transport operators immobilized by threats, children deprived of schooling, and families torn apart by insecurity. Instead of aiding recovery, these political opportunists are reigniting divisions to benefit from instability,” the statement noted.
Oladejo reaffirmed that no individual is exempt from the law, emphasizing that Mr. Nnamdi Kanu’s case is a matter for the judiciary, which remains independent, competent, and capable of dispensing justice without succumbing to public pressure or intimidation.
He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a framework focused on economic revitalization, boosting investor confidence, and promoting national unity. The administration’s inclusive approach has seen the South East gain significant representation in national leadership and enjoy infrastructural advancements.
“True development arises from harmony and collaboration, not disorder,” Oladejo concluded.
The Lagos APC urged security agencies to maintain heightened vigilance and called on all patriotic Nigerians, especially influential leaders in the South East, to reject divisive tactics propagated by those who thrive on bitterness. “Nigeria is a shared heritage, and political desperation must not be allowed to fracture our nation,” he emphasized.
“There must be boundaries to acrimonious politics,” the statement concluded.
