On Sunday, a massive gathering of Charlie Kirk’s supporters, alongside leading Republican figures, will convene to honor the life of the conservative activist, who was tragically killed less than two weeks ago.
At 31 years old, Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was a staunch ally of former President Trump and recognized as a key young voice within the MAGA movement. His untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout the Republican Party, resonating from grassroots activists to senior White House officials.
The close relationship between Kirk and Trump will be a focal point at the service, with both the former president and Vice President JD Vance scheduled to speak, alongside other senior administration members. Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, who was recently appointed CEO of Turning Point, will also address attendees.
The memorial is set to commence at 2 p.m. ET at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
The ongoing discourse on political violence
The memorial follows the recent indictment of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, accused of fatally shooting Kirk while he was delivering a speech at a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University on September 10. Prosecutors referenced a text message from Robinson expressing his motive, stating, “I had enough of his hatred.”

Kirk’s assassination has ignited a wider debate about political violence in America. Prominent Republicans, including Vice President Vance, have asserted that the “far left” bears the majority of responsibility for such violence, rejecting the notion that it is a problem on both sides.
This perspective sharply contrasts with documented incidents of politically motivated attacks targeting individuals across the ideological spectrum. Democrats have strongly refuted these GOP claims, emphasizing the complexity of the issue.
From a student activist to a MAGA figurehead

At just 18, Kirk founded Turning Point USA in 2012 as a platform for young conservatives. The organization now boasts over 1,800 chapters across high schools and colleges nationwide. By the time of his death, Kirk had cultivated a massive online audience and hosted the widely followed Charlie Kirk Show, available as both a podcast and radio program.
Despite initial fears among some young conservatives that Kirk’s death might dampen campus activism, Turning Point USA has reported a surge in interest. As of Thursday, the organization revealed it has received over 60,000 inquiries from students eager to establish or join chapters at their schools.
Uncertainty surrounding Turning Point’s path forward
In the lead-up to the 2024 elections, Turning Point Action, the group’s advocacy branch which extends beyond youth engagement, played a role in mobilizing voters for Trump in pivotal battleground states such as Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Many Republican leaders have credited Kirk with energizing young voters in support of Trump, though measuring his precise influence remains challenging.
For his youthful followers, Kirk’s legacy is profound. Young organizers and digital creators from Gen Z and millennial generations have expressed deep admiration for how he inspired their political journeys. This sentiment has been echoed by GOP officials, including Vice President Vance, who acknowledged Kirk’s role in his own political ascent.
“Without Charlie Kirk, I wouldn’t be the Vice President of the United States,” Vance remarked during a recent episode of Kirk’s show.
With Erika Kirk now at the helm of Turning Point, sustaining the momentum of Charlie Kirk’s political movement will likely require collective effort. Vice President Vance hinted at this during his recent remarks, emphasizing the importance of continuing Kirk’s mission.
“Charlie’s impact is irreplaceable, but we can assemble a team to carry forward his vision,” Vance stated. “We won’t let his legacy fade; we will keep advancing it.”
