Communities within the Kauru local government area of Kaduna State have expressed deep appreciation for the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, commending the military’s ongoing operations that have successfully dismantled numerous terrorist camps and brought much-needed stability to the region.
For years, the villages of Dokan Karji and Kwassam suffered relentless attacks and violence, but the recent intensified military campaign has significantly curtailed banditry, allowing many displaced residents to safely return to their homes.
Situated adjacent to nine local government areas, including some in neighboring Plateau State, Kauru has long been a hotspot for rural unrest in Kaduna due to its expansive and challenging terrain.
The area’s difficult geography and strategic position have historically hindered effective security enforcement, complicating efforts to maintain law and order.
In a joint declaration, Hon. Aminu Khalid and Alhaji Tukur Hussaini, chairpersons of the Dokan Karji and Kwassam security committees respectively, attributed the positive changes to the military’s recent crackdown on insurgent hideouts.
“The military’s proactive clearance of terrorist strongholds in Dokan Karji and across Kauru has ushered in a new era of peace for our communities,” they affirmed.
“Numerous villagers who fled due to bandit attacks, especially in Dokan Karji and Kwassam, have now been able to return and rebuild their lives.”
While acknowledging the overall improvement in security, the leaders recalled a tragic isolated incident on August 24, 2025, when the Ungwan Rimi community was attacked, resulting in seven fatalities and multiple injuries.
“Despite this unfortunate event, the affected villages are steadily recovering, with agricultural activities resuming and local markets beginning to thrive once again,” Khalid noted.
The community leaders have called for the deployment of additional military personnel to consolidate these hard-won gains, especially with the dry season approaching-a period when criminal elements typically attempt to reorganize.
They highlighted that the rainy season has naturally restricted bandit movements across waterways but emphasized the necessity of sustained vigilance to prevent any resurgence of violence.
