Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been placed in Group C for the AFCON 2025 tournament, where they will face Tanzania, Uganda, and Tunisia, according to Soccernet.ng.

Having secured the runner-up position in the 2023 AFCON held in Ivory Coast, the three-time champions are eager to claim the title in Morocco when the competition begins.

In a recent discussion with CAF Online, Tanzania’s head coach, Hemed Suleiman, outlined his team’s objectives, emphasizing their goal to accumulate at least four points to advance to the knockout rounds.

“Our target is to secure a minimum of four points, which typically positions a team well for progression to the knockout phase. Defensive resilience is paramount; maintaining clean sheets will be a key indicator of success,” the 55-year-old coach stated.

“On the offensive front, we aim to improve our conversion rate. We have concentrated on quick transitions and set-piece execution, as these often tip the balance in closely contested matches. Consistency and discipline will be vital.”

Suleiman Recognizes Nigeria’s Offensive Strength

For Tanzania’s Taifa Stars to advance, they must perform strongly against Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Suleiman praised Nigeria’s attacking prowess and creativity under coach Eric Chelle.

“Nigeria boasts a wealth of attacking talent and sharp creativity. They capitalize swiftly on any defensive lapses,” he remarked.

“Tunisia is known for their tactical discipline and defensive solidity, making them tough opponents who test your patience. Uganda plays with possession-based intensity and determination; their regional rivalry adds extra spice to the encounter.”

“We will adapt our tactics for each match while maintaining our team’s core identity.”

“Several teams have the potential to win the tournament. Nigeria and Senegal field top-tier African squads, many players competing in elite European leagues.”

“Morocco, as hosts, combine strong organization, confidence, and quality. Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Algeria bring depth and valuable experience.”

“That said, AFCON is always unpredictable – while favorites are formidable, surprises are part of the tournament’s charm,” Suleiman added.

Although Tanzania may not feature globally renowned stars, Suleiman is confident in maximizing his squad’s potential.

“Striking the right balance is essential. Experience aids in game management and decision-making, but it must be complemented by youthful energy, creativity, and discipline.”

“Our approach prioritizes team effort over individual accolades. Squad selection reflects this philosophy, ensuring competitiveness now and laying foundations for the future.”

“We have great confidence in our set-piece strategies. In tournaments like this, set pieces often determine outcomes.”

“We have practiced various delivery methods and defensive setups extensively. Several players are accustomed to high-pressure set-piece situations through their club experiences.”

“Our goal is to combine unpredictability with structure, which we believe can provide a competitive advantage.”

“Advancing to the knockout stage would mark a historic achievement, but our ambitions extend beyond that – we aim to reach the quarter-finals and continue developing towards AFCON 2027, which we will co-host.”

“Each stage we progress through enhances our experience, raises expectations, and strengthens our long-term goal: not just qualifying, but consistently competing at this elite level,” Suleiman concluded.

The Super Eagles will open their AFCON 2025 journey against Tanzania on December 23rd.
