The Kano State Fire Service has reported the tragic drowning of two adolescent boys in a stream located at Hayin Yawa Gada within the Tudun Wada local government area.
According to a statement from the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incident took place on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at approximately 2 p.m.
Abdullahi explained that the Emergency Response Unit at Tudun Wada Fire Station received an urgent call from a Hisbah official, alerting them that two boys, identified as Habu Sani and Haruna Isah, both around 15 years old, had drowned in a stream flowing beneath a prominent bridge in the vicinity.
“When our team arrived, they discovered that the boys had entered the water for recreational swimming and subsequently drowned. Although they were pulled out unconscious, they were later pronounced dead,” Abdullahi stated.
The deceased were handed over to Inspector Usaini Iliya of the Tudun Wada Police Division to carry out further investigations.
In an unrelated case, the Fire Service also retrieved the body of an unidentified individual from a well at Jaba Masaka Shago Tara in Kano city.
The statement noted that the P&G Kwalli Police Division reported the incident around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025.
“Our personnel from the state headquarters promptly responded and successfully recovered the body from the well. Witnesses indicated that the body had been submerged for approximately four days before discovery,” Abdullahi added.
The remains were then transferred to the local Ward Head, Ado Idris, for appropriate arrangements.
Expressing deep concern over the frequency of drowning accidents, the Fire Service Director, Sani Anas, urged parents and community leaders to vigilantly supervise children and discourage them from approaching streams, ponds, and other water bodies, particularly during the rainy season.
