The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has responded sharply to his detractors within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlighting that many who previously accused him of collaborating with the All Progressives Congress (APC) have now switched allegiance to the pdp-amid-south-leaders-split/” title=”2027 Showdown: Makinde Calls for Unity Amidst Southern … Leaders' Rift Over Zonal Consultative Meeting”>ruling party.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new road project in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike conveyed his approval of the recent political shifts and hinted at an upcoming address to Nigerians to elaborate on the unfolding political landscape.
“I am quite pleased, and soon I will share my thoughts with Nigerians,” Wike remarked. “I’ve been monitoring television and social media closely. Those who claimed I intended to undermine the PDP or that I was working for the APC have all joined the APC themselves. If those accusations were accurate, then I deserve praise for effectively paving the way for their transition.”
Having served two terms as Rivers State governor under the PDP banner, the FCT Minister emphasized that politics demands prudence and maturity, reaffirming his commitment to his responsibilities in the Federal Capital Territory.
“Politics is a game for the wise and cautious,” he noted. “One must tread carefully in this arena.”
Wike’s statements come amid a surge of prominent defections from the PDP to the APC. Just the day before, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah officially joined the APC, followed by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri’s defection on Wednesday.
These recent moves have intensified the internal turmoil within the opposition PDP, and Wike’s comments are expected to provoke further political discourse across party divides.
