Insights from Tacha on Modern Relationships and Life Abroad
Anita Akide, widely recognized as Tacha from Big Brother Naija and a thriving entrepreneur, recently ignited a wave of discussion online by sharing her unfiltered views on romance, dating strategies, and the realities of living overseas.
Empowering Women to Take Charge of Their Love Lives
During an episode on The Podcast Network’s YouTube channel, Tacha urged young women to avoid rushing into serious relationships prematurely. She advocated for maintaining multiple romantic connections simultaneously-not necessarily physical, but as a way to keep options open and avoid settling too soon.
“Every woman should have at least three other boyfriends. I’m not implying you should be intimate with all of them, but having options is crucial because you never truly know what the future holds,” she explained.
She emphasized the importance of remaining single until marriage, cautioning against letting a current partner hinder the possibility of meeting a future spouse.
“Stay single until you’re ready to marry. Don’t allow your boyfriend to block your path to your husband,” Tacha advised.
Navigating Gender Expectations in Relationships
Tacha highlighted the double standards society imposes on men and women, urging women to be strategic and discerning in their romantic endeavors.
“Men often receive leniency that women don’t. We have to be more calculated and deliberate in how we handle relationships,” she noted.
The Complexities of Life Abroad Versus Nigeria
Reflecting on her experiences living outside Nigeria, Tacha acknowledged that while life in Nigeria presents its own challenges, the struggles abroad can be even more daunting.
“Though Nigeria has its difficulties, living overseas can be tougher in many ways,” she admitted. She also pointed out a common reluctance among Nigerians abroad to return home due to fear of perceived failure.
“Many avoid coming back because they worry people will say they couldn’t succeed abroad and had to return,” she said.
Tacha shed light on the loneliness and financial hardships that often lie behind the glamorous social media portrayals of life abroad.
“People endure immense pressure to maintain a facade that doesn’t reflect reality. For instance, two of my bags were stolen in Paris-situations like that make me realize it’s not always easier than life back home,” she shared.
The Value of Community and Support in Nigeria
She praised the strong sense of community in Nigeria, which she believes is invaluable and often underestimated by those living overseas.
“Here, you can walk into your local shop and say, ‘Mama Ki, lend me 7,000 naira, I’ll pay you by month’s end.’ That kind of trust and support is rare elsewhere,” Tacha remarked.
She expressed that despite the hardships, there is much to appreciate and celebrate in Nigeria compared to the UK or other countries.
Harnessing Nigerian Resilience to Foster National Progress
Encouraging Nigerians to channel their outspoken and resilient nature positively, Tacha called for collective efforts to improve the country’s global reputation.
“Our boldness and toughness should be tools to demand better conditions and drive change. It took years to build Nigeria’s current image, so transforming it will require patience and persistence,” she concluded.
