President Bola Tinubu has officially sanctioned the creation of the Nigeria Police Training Institutes by endorsing the Establishment Bill into law.
During Tuesday’s plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that the President has exercised his constitutional authority by signing the bill, thereby instituting a formal legal framework for specialised police training centres nationwide.
“Regarding the Nigerian Police Force Training Institutions Establishment Bill 2025 amendment-following the Clerk’s submission of authenticated copies for presidential assent, I am returning two copies signed by the President, who has granted his approval and affixed the seal of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akpabio stated.
He further emphasized that this legislation “now formally establishes Police Training Institutes in locations designated by the Nigerian Senate,” highlighting the administration’s dedication to enhancing law enforcement professionalism and reinforcing the country’s internal security system.
The Senate initially passed the bill in December 2024 after thorough discussions focused on elevating police standards, upgrading training facilities, and increasing the operational capacity of security personnel throughout the federation.
