A coalition of former deputy governors representing diverse political and regional backgrounds across Nigeria has expressed strong endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and the initiatives of his administration.

The Former Deputy Governors Forum of Nigeria (FDGFN) has formally voiced its backing for President Tinubu’s government, commending the federal leadership for adopting numerous economic policy proposals initially put forward by the forum.

At the inauguration of the forum’s newly established secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Dr. Chris Akomas, the national chairman of FDGFN and ex-deputy governor of Abia State, praised the administration’s openness to expert counsel and its dedication to implementing reforms.

Akomas noted that several key recommendations from the forum’s most recent national conference-addressing critical challenges such as inflation control, foreign exchange volatility, employment generation, and streamlining governance expenditures-have been integrated into the current government’s policy framework.

“During last year’s conference, we thoroughly examined the nation’s economic hurdles and proposed targeted solutions. It is gratifying to witness many of these strategies being embraced and put into action,” he remarked.

He underscored that the forum’s foundation is driven by a desire to contribute constructively to Nigeria’s progress by utilizing the wealth of leadership experience among its members.

“Our commitment stems from a deep sense of patriotism. We are confident that Nigeria is progressing on a promising trajectory. With prudent leadership and well-crafted policies, the nation can unlock its vast potential-not only for the present but for generations to come.”

The new secretariat, situated centrally in Abuja, marks a significant achievement for the forum, which was officially established in 2010. This state-of-the-art facility also accommodates the Polish-Nigerian Business Council and includes amenities such as meeting rooms, a boardroom, a conference auditorium, and an exhibition space.

“We have transitioned from a humble office in Garki to this dedicated complex, which now serves as a hub for collaboration, research, policy discussions, and national development,” Akomas added.

Senator Aliyu Wamakko, former deputy governor and later governor of Sokoto State, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event, lauded the forum’s role in fostering democratic resilience and national cohesion.

“This forum transcends divisions of ethnicity, religion, and political allegiance. It embodies the leadership Nigeria requires-one that unites and motivates,” Wamakko stated.

“By exchanging insights and constructively holding leaders accountable, the forum enhances the quality of governance.”

Also in attendance was Dame Pauline Tallen, former Minister of Women Affairs and member of the FDGF Board of Trustees, who praised the forum’s impartial stance and its commitment to inclusive governance.

“Our unity is founded on shared goals rather than political affiliations. Our mission is to support the government when it pursues the right path and to ensure that policies address the populace’s needs,” she explained.

Tallen further highlighted the critical role of women’s participation within the forum and the wider national conversation.

With members drawn from all six geopolitical zones, the Former Deputy Governors Forum unites a wide array of political expertise.

As Nigeria navigates complex socio-economic dynamics, the forum has reiterated its pledge to function as a non-partisan advisory body, a policy think tank, and a bridge linking government efforts with citizen interests.
