During routine checkpoint operations in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, personnel from Operation Whirl Stroke successfully stopped a vehicle suspected of transporting illegal drugs on Tuesday.
According to a report from Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer for Operation Whirl Stroke, the interception took place on October 14, 2025, near Anguwan Malama within the Akwanga local government area.
Lt. Zubairu detailed that upon noticing the troops, the driver of a grey Toyota Solara bearing the Lagos registration number KJA-108FY abandoned the car and fled into the surrounding bushes.
Despite an immediate chase by the soldiers, the individual managed to escape capture.
“A detailed inspection of the vehicle uncovered multiple bags containing substances believed to be marijuana. Both the vehicle and the seized items are now secured by the military for further examination and eventual transfer to the appropriate authorities,” he stated.
Major General Moses Gara, Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, praised the troops for their alertness, determination, and professionalism, commending them through Brigadier General DC Nwakonobi, Commander of Sector 2, for their role in the successful operation.
He reiterated Operation Whirl Stroke’s commitment to restricting criminal activities, fostering stronger cooperation among agencies, and maintaining peace and security throughout Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
