Trump Unveils Bold Plan to End Gaza Conflict, Aiming to Unite Arab and Muslim Leaders

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the US president will convene with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

President Donald Trump of the United States is set to present a comprehensive proposal and share his perspective on resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza, as well as the future reconstruction of the heavily damaged Palestinian territory, during a meeting with Arab and Muslim dignitaries on Tuesday.

This gathering, scheduled alongside the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, will include representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye, Indonesia, and Pakistan, according to statements from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

According to anonymous sources from Israel and Arab nations cited by Israel’s Channel 12 and the US news outlet Axios, Trump intends to discuss a potential Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza, the deployment of regional peacekeeping forces to stabilize the area, and the initiation of a reconstruction and transition phase supported by international funding.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, anticipated to participate in the talks, expressed his country’s readiness to contribute peacekeeping troops to Gaza during a UN conference on the two-state solution, co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia on Monday.

“Indonesia stands prepared to play a role in this path toward peace by providing peacekeeping personnel,” he affirmed, coinciding with France and several other nations formally recognizing Palestinian statehood, joining countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal.

The framework for the Gaza plan reportedly was not created by Israel, though Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been briefed on its contents. The proposal is thought to include some participation by the Palestinian Authority (PA), a prospect Israel has consistently opposed.

Notably, the plan excludes any involvement from Hamas, which both the US and Israel insist must be disarmed and dismantled.

After nearly two years of a devastating conflict that has claimed over 65,000 Palestinian lives in Gaza-predominantly civilians, according to the enclave’s Ministry of Health-there remains little progress toward halting the violence and the severe humanitarian crisis caused by Israeli-imposed blockades.

Earlier this month, ceasefire negotiations showed signs of advancement until Israel launched unprecedented airstrikes targeting Hamas leadership in Qatar, undermining the talks. Hamas had reportedly agreed to a ceasefire proposal, and Israel claimed acceptance shortly before initiating the attacks.

Since then, Israeli forces have intensified their assault on Gaza City, the territory’s largest urban area, resulting in daily civilian casualties, widespread destruction of residential buildings, and the displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians toward the southern regions under uncertain conditions.

Israel also disrupted a ceasefire agreement on March 18 by conducting heavy air raids that killed hundreds of Palestinians shortly after securing the release of several hostages from Gaza. This was followed by a comprehensive blockade lasting months, which has precipitated a severe famine crisis.

Fox News, a media outlet aligned with Trump, reported on Monday that Hamas has prepared a letter addressed to the US president proposing a 60-day truce guaranteed by Trump, in exchange for the immediate release of half of the remaining 48 captives, approximately 20 of whom are reportedly alive.

The letter is said to be held by Qatar, acting as a mediator, and is expected to be delivered to Trump later this week. Neither Hamas nor Qatar have publicly responded to these reports.

Both President Trump and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani are scheduled to speak at the UNGA on Tuesday.

While international efforts aim to revive peace talks, the Israeli military continues its deep incursion into Gaza City with multiple armored and infantry divisions, demolishing homes and critical infrastructure.

Simultaneously, intense airstrikes persist throughout Gaza, with casualties reported in several neighborhoods of Gaza City on Tuesday. Israeli operations are also ongoing in the occupied West Bank, where the government is advancing plans to annex portions of the territory.
