Trump’s characteristic style of weaving together multiple narratives into a single speech was on full display Tuesday, as he spoke for more than 70 minutes without a clear linear progression.

Throughout his address, he reiterated longstanding complaints about his political adversaries, praised his foreign policy achievements, and emphasized the need to enhance the visual condition of the Navy’s warships.
However, the most significant message Trump conveyed to the military leadership was a shift in focus toward domestic operations.

Addressing Internal Threats
Trump repeatedly indicated his desire for the armed forces to tackle what he perceives as internal dangers, including civil unrest and unauthorized immigration.
“Last month, I enacted an executive order to establish training for a rapid response unit designed to manage civil disturbances,” he explained.
“This initiative is crucial for many of you here because it targets the enemy within, and we must control it before it escalates.”
He has already authorized military deployments in cities such as Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Memphis, and Portland.
On Tuesday, Trump hinted at expanding this presence to other metropolitan areas like San Francisco, Chicago, and New York, framing the effort as a form of internal warfare.
“This will be a significant mission for some of you. It’s a war as well-a war from within,” he asserted.
This approach has sparked legal debates, as it challenges established boundaries regarding the military’s role in domestic law enforcement.
The 10th Amendment of the US Constitution delegates powers not explicitly assigned to the federal government to the states, including policing responsibilities.
Additionally, the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 restricts the military from participating in civilian law enforcement unless explicitly authorized by legislation.
Notably, Trump’s Republican Party has historically advocated for state sovereignty and limited federal intervention.
Arguing for the Nobel Peace Prize
Trump portrayed himself as a global peacemaker, citing his involvement in resolving international conflicts, such as the May tensions between India and Pakistan.
He implied that these efforts merit recognition with a Nobel Peace Prize.
“Will I receive the Nobel Prize? Absolutely not,” Trump remarked. “They’ll award it to someone who hasn’t accomplished anything.”
He further stated that denying him the prize would be a “major insult” to the United States.
During the first nine months of his second term, Trump authorized military actions including airstrikes in Iran and Yemen, escalated drone operations in Somalia, and launched attacks on vessels in the Caribbean purportedly involved in drug trafficking.
However, his administration has yet to present definitive evidence linking these strikes to narcotics smuggling. Trump and his team have joked that fishing near Venezuela has become perilous due to these military operations.
Proposal to End the Gaza Conflict
Trump indicated that a ceasefire in Gaza might be imminent, claiming that Israel along with Arab and Muslim nations have accepted his peace framework, leaving Hamas as the remaining party to agree.
He suggested that his comprehensive 20-point plan could bring lasting peace to the region.
“I asked, ‘How long has this conflict lasted?’ ‘Three thousand years, sir.’ That’s a long time, but I believe we’ve found a solution. Time will tell,” the president stated.
In fact, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict began in the early 20th century with Zionist settlement efforts, and the first Arab-Israeli war occurred in 1948.
Earlier in the day, Trump warned Hamas that they have three to four days to accept his proposal or face “a very sad end.”
Expressing Disappointment in Putin
Trump reaffirmed his commitment to ending the war in Ukraine, placing blame on Russian President Vladimir Putin for prolonging the hostilities.
He also suggested that Russia is encountering significant military difficulties, with heavy casualties on both sides each week.
“I’m deeply disappointed in President Putin,” Trump said.
“I believed he would conclude this conflict swiftly. He should have ended it within a week. I told him, ‘You don’t look strong. You’ve been fighting for four years a war that should have lasted a week. Are you just a paper tiger?'”
Last month, Trump met with Putin in Alaska and has advocated for a summit between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Despite these diplomatic efforts, the fighting continues unabated.
Recently, Trump suggested that Ukraine could reclaim all territories seized by Russia, marking a shift from his earlier stance that Kyiv might need to cede some land to achieve peace.
Criticism of Joe Biden
Throughout his speech, Trump took multiple jabs at President Joe Biden, blaming the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan under Biden’s administration as a catalyst for Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
He repeatedly labeled the Biden administration as “inept.”
“You won’t witness another four years like the ones under Biden and his incompetent team who should never have been in charge,” Trump told the generals.
He also mocked Biden’s physical stumbles, contrasting them with his own cautious approach to climbing stairs.
“We have achieved peace through strength. America commands respect once again,” Trump declared. “Under Biden, we were disrespected. People saw him falling down stairs every day. Every single day.”
