In a commanding performance at UFC Fight Night in Perth, New Zealand’s Carlos Ulberg dismantled former light heavyweight title contender Dominick Reyes with a decisive first-round knockout at 4:27.
Following this victory, which extends his undefeated streak in the UFC to nine fights, Ulberg (13-1 MMA) confidently announced his plans to attend the upcoming UFC 320 event in Las Vegas. There, he aims to witness the highly anticipated rematch between Russian contender Magomed Ankalaev (21-1, 1 NC) and Brazil’s former light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira (12-3).
“I’m coming for the championship,” Ulberg declared post-fight, signaling his intent to challenge for the title soon.
From the opening bell, Ulberg imposed relentless pressure, effectively neutralizing Reyes’ striking attempts. After landing a sharp left hand that visibly shook Reyes, Ulberg capitalized on the moment with a powerful right hook under a minute into the round, sending the American fighter crashing to the canvas and ending the bout.
This defeat halted Reyes’ (15-4 MMA) three-fight winning streak and marked his first knockout or technical knockout loss since November 2022, when he was stopped by Ryan Spann.
Reflecting on his strategy, Ulberg explained, “My plan was to outbox Reyes. He felt the power early, and I could see in his eyes he didn’t want to experience that again. So, when the chance came, I threw the two and dropped him.”
In the co-main event, Australian fighter Jimmy Crute (14-4-2) secured his second consecutive victory by submitting Croatia’s Ivan Erslan (14-6) with a rear-naked choke just over three minutes into the first round.
Ersan remains winless in his three UFC appearances, with his last triumph dating back to February 2024. Crute’s submission marked the sixth of his professional career.
Featherweight contender Jack Jenkins from Australia showcased his aggressive striking and forward momentum to outpoint the resilient American Ramon Taveras via unanimous decision, with scores of 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28.
Jenkins (14-4) has claimed five wins in his last seven fights, while Taveras (10-4) has struggled recently, suffering three losses in his last five bouts and enduring a winless streak exceeding 20 months.
Continuing the trend of submission finishes, UFC welterweight veteran Neil Magny from the United States secured a d’arce choke victory over Australian favorite Jake Matthews at 3:08 of the third round.
Magny (31-14) weathered an early barrage from Matthews (22-8) before mounting a comeback to notch his 24th UFC win and extend his current winning streak to two fights.
